"Not a penny more to Ukraine": the controversial message at a rally in support of Donald Trump in the US

The main support that Ukraine is having in the war unleashed after the invasion of Russia is the United States. The Biden administration has spared neither money nor material for the Ukrainian troops to continue resisting.

But not everyone in the United States agrees. This Friday, at a rally in support of former President Donald Trump, a controversial congresswoman promised that "under the Republicans, not one more penny will go to Ukraine."

Marjorie Taylor Greene, 48, said that if Republicans retake control of Congress in Tuesday's midterm elections, funding for Ukraine will not be increased, as she declared "our country comes first."

The Republican politician said Democrats "only care about Ukraine" and not "the southern border of the United States," and vowed to put Americans first if Republicans regain control.

Tuesday's midterm elections put all 435 House seats up for grabs, including 35 Senate seats.

Taylor Greene is not the first Republican politician to criticize US aid to Ukraine. Last month, House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy proposed reducing the amount of money Ukraine is given in its war against Russia. "Ukraine is important, but at the same time it cannot be the only thing, and it cannot be a blank check," he said.

Some Republicans have been forced to try to distance themselves from claims that the party wants to stop funding more aid to Ukraine.

House Armed Services Committee member Michael Waltz, a Republican, rejected this claim on Wednesday, saying the vast majority of his party supports military aid to Ukraine.

Even Donald Trump's former vice president, Mike Pence, was also supportive on Wednesday when he said he wanted to "give Ukraine the resources to defend itself." In addition, Arkansas Governor Asa Hutchinson said the idea of withdrawing funding for Ukraine's defense against Russia would be a "mistake."
