- Satellite images have revealed the accumulation of up to 20 Tu-96 and Tu-160 aircraft.
Russia is preparing an "imminent" large-scale attack in Ukraine: they detect activity at a key airbase
A new large-scale Russian attack on Ukraine could be "imminent", according to some international analysts, who have detected great activity at a key air base on the border between the two countries.
As reported by the Mirror, Russia is stockpiling bombers and cruise missiles to carry out this "imminent large-scale attack," analysts say.
Satellite images provided by the US company Maxar Technologies show an accumulation of planes at the Russian Engels-2 airport, which is located some 700 km from the border with Ukraine.
Among the planes are more than 20 long-range Tu-95 and Tu-160 bombers, two of Russia's air force's flagship cruise-missile launch planes. This number of planes on the runway is unusual and could indicate an imminent attack, experts believe.
Military analyst Arda Mevlutoğlu told the German publication Spiegel: "The unusually high number of bombers on the runway is an indication of increased operations, if not an imminent full-scale attack."
Along with these long-distance bomber planes, several fuel tanker trucks and ammunition boxes have also been detected.
A number of tractors used to carry the X-55 and X-101 cruise missiles, which have a range of 2,500 km and are capable of carrying nuclear warheads, have also been spotted.
Russia has been using cruise missiles to attack Ukrainian targets from Russian soil, keeping its launchers out of the range of Ukraine's air defenses.
