The FBI warns of the presence of Chinese secret police in the United States

FBI Director Christopher Wray has expressed concern about the proliferation of unauthorized Chinese police stations on US soil. "I am very concerned about this matter. We are aware of the existence of these police stations," Wray told the Senate homeland security committee.

"It is outrageous to think that the Chinese police are trying to establish themselves, for example, in New York without the proper authorization. It violates national sovereignty and circumvents the judicial and police cooperation processes," says Wray, who has announced that the FBI is investigating the subject, without providing further details.

"It's a real problem and something we're also talking about with our foreign partners because we're not the only country where this has happened," Wray said.

A police station in Madrid worked covertly

The Madrid-based human rights foundation Safeguard Defenders already published a report in September warning of the presence of this type of Chinese police station abroad, especially on European territory.

In fact, the report stated that in Spain there were at least nine police stations of this type discovered. "While much of their job is simply serving Chinese residents or tourists, evidence shows that a station in Madrid has been actively working with Chinese police to engage in illegal and covert police operations in Spain," the document said.

This organization maintains that the police stations are an extension of Beijing's efforts to pressure Chinese citizens or their relatives abroad to return to China and face legal charges. They also respond to your interest in increasing your influence and spreading propaganda abroad.

At the beginning of November, the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs denied that these types of police stations existed in the Netherlands after an investigation by the authorities of the country that had denounced it. Beijing claimed that they were assistance offices for Chinese citizens.
