The Ebola outbreak that affects Uganda continues to advance and already reaches the capital
The Ebola outbreak affecting Uganda has already reached the metropolitan region of Kampala, the capital, where at least nine cases have been detected over the weekend, seven of them members of the same family, according to the country's Ministry of Health. African.
Since the first case was confirmed in Uganda, on September 20, the Government has registered a total of 75. At least 28 patients have died, while the authorities monitor more than 1,700 contacts to try to cut the chain of contagion of a life-threatening disease.
The Minister of Health, Jane Ruth Aceng Ocero, assured this Monday that nine cases have already been confirmed in the Kampala metropolitan region, considered contacts of a person who arrived in the capital from the Kassanda district and died in the main hospital.
The minister has urged the population to remain "vigilant" and alert the authorities in case of contact with a sick person. Around 1.5 million people live in the capital alone, which would make containment even more essential to avoid exponential growth in cases.
The Government has also offered, in collaboration with the UN, training sessions for journalists to help raise this awareness, which is key to containing the outbreak. Contrary to other previous emergencies in African countries, the strain detected in Uganda is Sudan, for which no vaccines have been developed.
