Liz Truss, at her farewell: "It was a huge honor to serve the United Kingdom"

The still British Prime Minister, Liz Truss, said on Tuesday that it has been a "great honor" to serve the United Kingdom and highlighted the aid she launched to help families in the face of the energy crisis.

The politician made a brief statement at the Downing Street residence before going to Buckingham Palace, the residence of the British royal family, to formally present her resignation to King Charles III, who ascended the throne on September 8.

Truss had announced his resignation on the 20th, after his controversial fiscal program, with tax cuts, caused turbulence in the markets and plunged the pound.

The conservative politician highlighted that it was also an honor to have led as head of government the mourning that the United Kingdom experienced after the death of Queen Elizabeth II, on September 8 at the Scottish castle of Balmoral, after seventy years of reign.

As he stated, his government acted "urgently" to help millions of families with energy bills and prevent many companies from going bankrupt.

Truss also highlighted the opportunities that are presented to the United Kingdom after Brexit and urged to bet on an economy with low taxes, as well as to focus on economic growth to give "greater opportunities to our children and grandchildren".

At the same time, the policy reiterated the importance of continuing to support Ukraine in the face of the Russian invasion and the need for the UK to strengthen its defenses.

After brief primaries in the Conservative Party, its deputies yesterday elected the former Economy Minister Rishi Sunak as leader of the formation and next prime minister.

Once the audience with Truss is over, Carlos III will call Sunak to ask him to form the new Government of the United Kingdom.

The next head of the Government, 42 years old, assumes power in the midst of a difficult economic crisis, due to the increase in inflation and interest rates and an imminent recession.
