In the summer of 2000, the Kursk submarine tragedy occurred in the Barents Sea. This Russian submersible suffered an explosion and sank, without the Russian Navy being able to recover the bodies of the 118 sailors who perished in the catastrophe, one of the first major setbacks for Vladimir Putin as president of Russia.

One of those 118 victims was Fanis Ishmuratov, a submarine technician who was 26 years old at the time. He received the Order of Valor, but his body was never recovered.

Now, 22 years after that catastrophe, her son Danis, 25, has died while fighting under Putin's command on the Ukraine front, as reported by several Russian media and the Daily Mail. Faina Ishmuratova, 46 years, thus becomes the widow and mother of a soldier killed in the war.

Danis Ishmuratov had spoken in the Russian media before leaving for the front. "I dream of becoming an officer, raising many children, at least seven. Having a house, a sauna, children, so that my mother is happy with grandchildren," he said.

"I decided to start with the ground forces to gain experience," he said. "I am considering serving in the Navy in the future and I want my sons to continue the military dynasty," he said.

"My mother did not interfere in any way with my decision to go to the army, even though I was an only child, and even supported me, saying: 'Continue your father's service,'" the late soldier concluded.
