Apple's first foldable won't be an iPhone

- Experts believe that the apple brand will take time to enter the roll-up device market, due to the high price that it would entail.

Foldable mobile phones are starting to gain a foothold in the market, and some manufacturers have started developing other flexible devices, such as laptops from Samsung and Lenovo. The big technology firms have been betting on these innovative designs for some time, but Apple is taking time to join the trend.

Although consumers of the apple brand are also waiting for their folding iPhones, it seems that they are going to be repealed. Before, those from Cupertino will create a tablet with a flexible screen, or that is what Ben Wood, an analyst at CCS Insight for CNBC, predicts.

According to Wood, "it doesn't make sense for Apple to make a foldable iPhone" because it would imply that its mobile phones would raise their prices more, something that would be a risk for sales. Despite this, he does expect the company to make a flexible iPad.

Despite the analyst's predictions, Apple is not expected to release a foldable iPad any time soon. Last week, the company announced its new tablets with a 10.9-inch Liquid Retina display powered by the A14 Bionic chip. Wood points out that the flexible version of the iPad could arrive sometime in 2024, so there is still time for us to find out if his estimates are fulfilled or not.

Why could Apple get on board with flexible screens?

The analyst believes that if a foldable iPhone were created, prices would skyrocket to $2,500. An extremely expensive price, especially when compared to the iPhone 14 Pro Max with the largest storage that costs $1,599.

However, the fashion for rollable screens is a fact and Apple will have to join if it wants to compete with other large manufacturers. "You have no choice but to react because the foldable trend is gaining momentum," says Wood. For that reason, iPads will be a possible solution for your competitive strategy.

That Wood predicts this about Apple, does not mean that it finally ends up being carried out. It is important to note that there have been several rumors about it for a few years now.

Display Supply Chain Consultants, a market research firm, produced a report that said Apple was unlikely to try to develop a foldable smartphone until at least 2025.
