Zelensky presents his five conditions for peace before the UN General Assembly and asks for a "just punishment" for Russia

The president of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelensky, denounced this Wednesday before the UN General Assembly the Russian invasion and the destruction it has caused, proposed a five-point "formula for peace", and demanded that the rest of the world punish Moscow. . "A crime has been committed against Ukraine and we demand a just punishment," he said in the video message with which he addressed meetings of international leaders at the United Nations this year.

Dressed in his usual military shirt and speaking in English, the Ukrainian president insisted that his country "wants peace" but has been forced to fight and is showing "its strength on the battlefield."

Zelensky seemed to close the door at this time to negotiations with Russia, insisting that Moscow speaks of dialogue when it simultaneously mobilizes reservists or calls annexation referendums in occupied areas.

"Russia wants war," stressed the Ukrainian president. "We are ready for peace, but a true, honest, and just peace. That is why we have the world on our side," he insisted.

In this sense, Zelensky said that an agreement to end the conflict should only be based on principles established by his country and presented to the UN a "formula for peace" with five main points: the punishment of Russia for the aggression, protection of life, restoration of Ukraine's security and territorial integrity, security guarantees, and your country's determination to continue to defend itself.

Regarding the consequences for Russia, the Ukrainian leader called for sanctions, a blockade of trade and relations with Moscow, the withdrawal of his right to vote in international bodies, restrictions on visas for Russians, or the creation of a special court to judge the crimes committed.

In addition, Zelenski charged harshly against the countries that have chosen to remain neutral in the conflict. "Those who talk about neutrality when human values and peace are under attack, are talking about something else. They are talking about indifference," he said.

The President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelensky, addresses the UN General Assembly through a video message.

"We cannot accept delaying the war," the president said, insisting that when Moscow talks about negotiations, the only thing it is looking for is "buying time."

"Russia wants to spend the winter in the occupied territory of Ukraine and prepare its forces to try a new offensive. New Buchas, new Iziums...", he stated, referring to two of the cities where, after the Russian withdrawal, alleged killings.

"At the very least, they want to prepare fortifications on occupied lands and carry out a military mobilization at home," Zelensky added.

For this reason, the Ukrainian leader requested more military support, especially long-range weapons and air defenses, and greater financial assistance in order to maintain internal stability and support his population.

"We can return the Ukrainian flag to the whole of our territory. We can do it with a force of arms, but we need time," he said.
