- Russia threatens the US: if it delivers longer-range missiles to Ukraine, it will be part of the conflict.
Ukraine discovers a mass grave in a forest near Izyum, with more than 440 bodies buried
The President of Ukraine, Volodímir Zelenski, denounced on Thursday the discovery of a mass grave with 440 bodies in the town of Izium -in the Kharkiv region, east of the country-, recently liberated from Russian troops.
"A mass grave was found in Izium," Zelensky said in his customary late-night speech released by the presidency. "The necessary procedural actions have already been initiated," added the president.
"There should be more clear and verified information tomorrow," Zelensky added, referring to this Friday when he will summon Ukrainian and international journalists to witness the state of the city.
"We want the world to know what is really happening and what the Russian occupation has led to. Bucha, Mariupol, now, unfortunately, Izyum... Russia leaves death everywhere. And it must be held accountable for it," the president declared from Ukraine.
"There will be no subjugation of Ukraine"
Zelenski put the number of missiles that Russian troops would have launched toward Ukrainian territory at more than 3,800, although he warned that "no missile will bring Russia closer to its objective."
"There will be no subjugation of Ukraine. Each missile brings Russia closer to further international isolation, further economic degradation, and even clearer historical doom," he said.
The Ukrainian president visited the city of Izium on Wednesday to attend the official flag-raising ceremony after the expulsion of Russian troops from the town. "Raising the flag implies for Ukraine to accept that the enemy is gone," he said.
Kyiv estimates that the territory it has gained from Russian forces in eastern Ukraine in recent weeks is more than 4,000 square kilometers.
Zelensky acknowledged on Wednesday that the last few months in these areas have been "extremely difficult," but stressed that even if Russia manages to "temporarily" occupy some areas, it will not be able to gain control of the Ukrainian people.
Causes of deaths
Serhii Bolvinov, the chief investigator of the Ukrainian police for the Kharkiv region, has told the media that the mass grave where the bodies were found is one of the largest found so far in a liberated city.
"We know that some were shot dead, some were killed by artillery fire, so-called mine blast injuries. Some were killed by air strikes. We also have information that many bodies have yet to be identified," he said SkyNews.
