An artificer has suffered injuries to his hands and legs after an explosive device detonated just as the uniformed officer was inspecting the suspicious package near the police station in the municipality of Suárez, in the department of Cauca, Colombia.
According to official information, the victim is Subintendent Yorman Cortés Acosta, who was saved from dying in the event and was immediately transferred in a van to a medical center due to the severity of his injuries.
The population had denounced the presence of the vehicle in the place, which is why the authorities went to verify if the motorcycle represented a danger to the community. In the video, shared by inhabitants of the area, it is seen how the uniformed man approaches with a special suit at the exact moment in which the explosion occurs.
Situation in Cauca
The event occurs less than 24 hours after another similar attack against the Colombian Public Force. The latter happened in the municipality of Corinto, Cauca, in retaliation for the death of one of the top leaders of the Revolutionary Armed Forces (FARC) dissidents, Leider Johany Noscue, alias 'Mayimbú'.
Although no injuries were reported, the authorities have indicated that members of this armed group abandoned a motorcycle near the Corinto Police station, a vehicle that exploded shortly after, causing damage to homes and commercial establishments.
These attacks on the Police occur three days before the presidential elections in Colombia between the candidates Rodolfo Hernández and Gustavo Petro. In this regard, the authorities have decreed measures to guarantee security throughout the country during election day and even after knowing the results, as it is feared that strong demonstrations will occur again depending on the winner of the elections.
