China announced that it will carry out a large-scale inspection of its primary and secondary school books after a controversy broke out on Chinese social networks in recent days because they allegedly contained "ugly and pornographic images", according to the state-run Global Times newspaper.

Internet users accuse the Chinese publisher People's Education Press and the competent authorities of not having carried out the due process of correction and revision in three stages that marks the legislation of the Asian country.

The controversy arose several days ago in the different social networks of the country when illustrations of a math book began to be shared in which children could be seen in strange poses, with crooked mouths, tongues sticking out, and half-closed eyes.

In addition, the complaints pointed out that the clothing of several of these children could be associated with the United States flag, something unacceptable in the eyes of the most nationalist sectors of Chinese society due to the constant diplomatic clashes between the two nations.

These captures made more images of the aforementioned book appear, which further fueled the debate as they were considered inappropriate since they allegedly showed students in acts of sexual connotation, and even illustrated, always in consideration of Chinese Internet users, a child without pants showing the penis.

The publisher published a statement apologizing and stating that they feel a deep sense of guilt and confirmed that they were already working to hire new designers who will be in charge of replacing the illustrations for the new semester that will begin in the fall.

With these measures, they hope to end the "poisoning" that generations of students have suffered since 2012 with this material, as Internet users described in their comments since the book in question has been used in classes in China since the aforementioned school year.
