Record migratory flow

Two weeks ago, hundreds of undocumented immigrants, mostly of Venezuelan origin, were evicted by riot police from a camp they set up on the banks of the Rio Grande, the natural border between Mexico and the United States.

Since that date, the migrants have suffered violent acts, such as an attempted kidnapping in a shelter, where they were taking refuge in the Mexican Ciudad Juárez and the attack on Wednesday.

Regarding this problem, the Secretary of State Public Security, Gilberto Loya, explained that the migration problem has changed since 2017.

"Currently the income from human trafficking is greater than that from stupefactions, it is the main source of money for organized crime," he said.

The region is experiencing a record migratory flow to the United States, whose Customs and Border Protection Office detained an unprecedented number of more than 2.76 million undocumented immigrants in fiscal year 2022.
