On the hunt for a cougar that is spreading terror in Hollywood: it has already attacked two dogs

A cougar that has been dubbed the 'Hollywood Cat' for prowling in developed neighborhoods near Griffith Park in Los Angeles is being sought by authorities in the Californian city after it carried out several attacks on domestic dogs.

In the latest case, the cougar, who is identified as P-22 and is wearing a tracking collar, attacked and injured a Chihuahua in the Silver Lake area, running away when the dog's owner punched and kicked it until it ran away. , according to the Los Angeles Daily News.

Officials are concerned about the behavior of P-22, the area's most famous cougar, after his attacks on dogs and his close encounters with his owners.

The California Department of Fish and Wildlife and the National Park Service believes that P-22 may be showing signs of distress associated with living in an urban environment.

Officials are now planning to capture the big cat to assess its health and, if necessary, remove it from Griffith Park.

The Chihuahua's owner, Rene Astorga, explained his experience this way: "At that point, it was a fight or flight instinct. I started punching or kicking, never letting go of the leash until I finally felt it was loose. I picked up my dog and ran inside the house". Taz the dog had to receive multiple stitches for cuts and lacerations but is expected to make a recovery.
