Is the Covid pandemic over? The theory defended by a prestigious German virologist affirms that the virus has already become "endemic"

Christian Drosten, one of the leading German virologists, stated this Monday that the covid virus has already become endemic and that with it the pandemic has come to an end.

"This winter we are experiencing the first endemic wave of Sars-Cov-2 and with it, in my opinion, the pandemic has ended," said the director of the virology area of the Berlin Charité hospital in an interview with the newspaper "Tagesspiegel".

Once winter is over, population immunity will be so broad and resilient that the virus will no longer have the ability to cause a new wave of cases in summer, Drosten ventured, unless it mutates again. "But I don't expect that to happen right now," he said.

The big mistake in China has been that the population, particularly the elderly, has not been made aware of vaccination
Drosten defended, however, the restrictions introduced by the authorities to stop the spread of the pandemic, since without the reduction of contacts in Germany there would have been "one million deaths or more".

Asked about the situation in China, where the number of cases has increased alarmingly after the withdrawal of restrictions, the virologist highlighted the decisive result of the vaccination campaigns in Germany and Europe. "The big mistake in China has been that the population, particularly the elderly, has not been made aware of vaccination," he said.
