Case 'Baby June': a mother is accused of murder four years after throwing the body of her newborn into the sea in Florida

The mother of a newborn baby whose lifeless body was found in the sea in June 2018 off the Florida coast, has been arrested four years after the case of 'Baby June', as the girl was nicknamed, shocked public opinion, the Police have informed.

The Palm Beach County Sheriff, Ric Bradshaw, led a press conference last Thursday in which details of the resolution of this media case were given, which concludes with the arrest of the mother, identified as Arya Singh, 29 years old. , who will be charged with first-degree murder.

In 2018, off-duty firefighter Chris Lemieux, who was sailing, found the body of the baby, who doctors determined was no more than 2 weeks old.

"We have recently solved cases that were 25 years old. We will never leave you behind and forget the fact that you are a victim. Now, if you are the person who did this? We will never forget you either because we are on your quest to take you to justice," the officer said.

Singh, according to the sheriff, said at the time of her arrest that she did not know she was pregnant until she gave birth and that she also had no knowledge of whether the baby was alive or dead.

A forensic doctor had determined that it was a homicide, given the conditions in which the body was found.

According to genetic DNA tests carried out, the baby was of 50% Asian and 50% African descent, a combination that occurs in places like Barbados, Trinidad, or Jamaica.

First investigations

Investigators, however, were unable to find the baby's identity after conducting an initial search of the databases of all children born in Palm Beach and Broward counties on the dates "Baby" is believed to have been born in June".

However, they believe the body was in the water for at least a day and may have floated from Broward County to neighboring Palm Beach further north.

The work to solve the case was not easy and required the intervention of investigators specialized in "frozen cases", who identified the baby's father as the first step.

Investigators were able to locate the father first, who said he knew nothing about the baby and that he had had a girlfriend at the time who became pregnant.

He noted that she understood that she had taken care of the matter presumably by means of an abortion.

Investigators obtained a covert DNA sample from the woman they identified as a suspect from a piece of trash and began building the case. In this way, they used search warrants for phone records and GPS data.

For their part, members of the sheriff's office indicated that Singh was in Boynton Beach on May 30, 2018, the same day the baby was born.

Lastly, they found a Google search history of Boynton Beach from Singh, who also searched for local news in the days before she left the baby in the water and for about a month afterward.

For all this, the authorities offered a reward of up to $10,000 to anyone who knew information that would lead to the resolution of the case.
