At least seven people have died in the Russian city of Nizhnevartovsk, in the center of the country, after a residential building collapsed following a gas explosion.

According to the latest report from the Russian Ministry of Emergency Situations, seven people lost their lives when a gas cylinder depressurized and caused the roofs of the first to third floors of a building to collapse, the TASS agency has collected.

Emergency services continue to work at the scene removing debris and searching for possible survivors of the incident. The Russian Investigative Committee has opened an investigation to determine what happened, according to the aforementioned agency.
