At least 36 injured by turbulence on a flight, eleven seriously: "We almost flew out of our chairs"

At least 36 people have been injured due to the "serious turbulence" suffered by the flight in which they were traveling, from the Hawaiian Airlines company, between the cities of Phoenix (Arizona) and Honolulu (Hawaii).

Flight HA35 from PHX (Phoenix) to HNL (Honolulu) encountered severe turbulence and landed safely at HNL at 10:50 a.m. (local time) today," the airline explained on Twitter.

One of the passengers explained to the Hawaiian media that "it quickly escalated to the point where we were shaking so much that we were like floating out of our chairs."

"Several passengers and crew members were provided medical attention at the airport for minor injuries, while some were quickly transferred to local hospitals for further care," the company added.

A baby, to the hospital

"We are supporting all affected passengers and employees and continue to monitor the situation," the company said, while CNN specified that eleven people were in serious condition, according to the Honolulu Emergency Medical Services (EMS).

Among those taken to the hospital was a 14-month-old boy and three crew members are also among the injured, who have lacerations, bruises and loss of consciousness, among other types of injuries.

The turbulence occurred between 15 and 30 minutes before the plane landed in Honolulu, with 278 passengers and 10 crew members on board, according to the US chain.
