Xi Jinping's tremendous public anger at Canadian Trudeau: "If you're not honest... we don't act like that"
Chinese President Xi Jinping and his Canadian counterpart Justin Trudeau held a brief and tense conversation at the end of the G-20 summit in Indonesia, a moment that was caught on camera by journalists covering the event.
In that meeting, the Chinese leader did not hesitate to publicly reprimand Trudeau for having leaked details of the conversation they had had the day before.
"Everything we talked about has been leaked to the newspaper. That is not appropriate. We do not act like this. If you are honest, we must communicate with mutual respect. If not, the consequences will be difficult to predict," Xi snapped at Trudeau through A translator.
The Canadian president nods as he listens to Xi's words and responds: "In Canada, we believe in open, free, and frank dialogue. We will continue to look for ways to work together in a constructive way, but there will be things we will not agree on."
Xi, whose gestures show his discomfort, concludes the conversation: "First we create the conditions." Subsequently, both leaders shake hands and part ways.
