Pelosi's husband released from the hospital six days after assault at home
The husband of the president of the United States House of Representatives, Nancy Pelosi, was discharged this Thursday from the Zuckerberg General Hospital in San Francisco (ZSFGH) after having been hospitalized for six days after being attacked at his home, according to The family has detailed in a statement.
Pelosi, 82, was hospitalized last Friday when he was attacked by a person who entered his house looking for the president of the US Congress, inflicting serious injuries on his right arm and hands, as well as a skull fracture, which has been operated on.
In a statement, the Democratic legislator reported that her husband "will continue to be under medical care while he continues to progress in a long process of recovery and convalescence," and asked for privacy for him and his family.
"The Pelosi family is grateful for the beautiful outpouring of love, support, and prayers from around the world. Paul is grateful to the emergency operator, the emergency services, the trauma care team, the ICU staff, and all the ZSFGH medical staff for the excellent and compassionate life-saving treatment he received after the violent assault on our home," Nancy Pelosi's press office said in the letter.
The alleged perpetrator, David DePape, was arrested by authorities the same day as the attack and pleaded not guilty Tuesday to charges against him, including assault and attempted kidnapping.
The husband of the Democratic legislator is already back at home and the family is expected to give more details about his state of health this Thursday, CNN reported.
DePape, a Canadian national, entered the US legally through Mexico but had expired his stay in the country for 14 years.
