- The idea has been pushed by the authorities in Wales, but the company has yet to implement it.
McDonald's strategy to prevent its customers from throwing waste out of the trash
One of the main problems facing local authorities around the world is waste management. One of the keys is to make the population aware so that they reduce the amount of waste they generate or at least throw it where it belongs.
McDonald's, the world's leading fast-food chain, is considering implementing a strategy that would reduce the amount of waste left out of the trash.
As reported by the Mirror, the authorities in Wales (United Kingdom) have proposed to the US company that they print the number plates of the cars that collect food from their restaurants on the order bags. This measure is intended to encourage customers to dispose of their rubbish responsibly.
McDonald's has stated that they remain "open to the proposal" from the Welsh authorities but has warned that there are some challenges associated with its implementation, due to the way it processes customer data.
"Encouraging our customers to dispose of our packaging responsibly is something we take seriously at McDonald's and have discussed this proposal several times over the years," a company spokesperson said.
Of course, they admit that "we are concerned about the effectiveness of printing the license plate numbers on our packages or receipts, and we are not convinced that it provides sufficiently solid evidence to support local authorities in the sanctioning processes of crimes related to the trash".
"We remain open to the proposal in principle and continue to review its feasibility. In the meantime, we continue to reward customers for littering through our partnership with LitterLotto," the company concluded.
