A landslide kills two young people in a house in northern Portugal
Two 22-year-olds died this Wednesday in the town of Esposende (northern Portugal) after a landslide affected the house where they were together with four other people, who were rescued unharmed.
Security agents have still not been able to remove the bodies of the fatalities, a man and a woman, both 22 years old.
"In that house, there were six people, of whom four were removed unharmed, without any type of injury. We are talking about a couple of about 40 and 50 years of age and two minors, 2 and 12 years old, who were unharmed," the 2nd Commander of Braga's Civil Protection, Rui Costa, told reporters.
The agent added that the two minors and the deceased young woman were the children of the woman residing in the house.
They have not yet disclosed the cause of the accident, although it could be due to the rains recorded in the area, Costa said.
He is not aware that any similar situation has occurred in any other house in the parish (an administrative body below the town halls), although they have alerted the residents of the area to leave their homes due to the risk of new landslides.
