The committee investigating the assault on Capitol Hill formally summons Trump to testify

The legislative committee investigating the assault on the Capitol on January 6, 2021 formally summoned former United States President Donald Trump this Friday to testify under oath and deliver documents.

The panel voted to subpoena Trump to testify at its final public hearing on Oct. 13. Already then, the committee argued that the former president and his inner circle planned months before the November 2020 presidential election to reject the results and declare their own victory.

Lawmakers exposed evidence, including recorded testimony from former Trump officials and advisers and emails, to prove that the decision to try to overturn their results was premeditated. In that electoral contest, the Republican lost against Democrat Joe Biden.

After hearing the result of the vote, Trump attacked the committee in several messages on his social network, Truth Social. The exmandatario accused the committee of the Lower House of not "knowingly" investigating the "massive" electoral fraud that he assures without evidence that it occurred.

Also this Friday, Steve Bannon, who was an ideological adviser to the former president, has been sentenced by a court in Washington D.C. four months in jail and a $6,500 fine for contempt, according to CNN.

Bannon was sentenced this summer for refusing to comply with a subpoena before the congressional committee investigating the events of that January 6.
