Zelensky says annexation shows there is nothing to negotiate with Russia
Russia's eventual annexation of the territories that on Tuesday voted to separate from Ukraine in internationally criticized referendums will mean that "there is nothing left to negotiate" with Vladimir Putin, Ukrainian President Volodimir Zelensky said.
In a videoconference statement to the UN Security Council, Zelensky said Tuesday that voters "were forced to vote at gunpoint" and that the results "had been written in advance."
The Ukrainian president, who addressed the council despite the opposition of the Russian ambassador, called for a new round of sanctions against Russia, as well as its expulsion from the UN and all international organizations.
