Wave of violence in Mexico: at least ten people are killed in the third massacre in a week in Guanajuato
At least 10 people were killed, and others were injured, this Wednesday in a pool located in the municipality of Tarimoro, in the central Mexican state of Guanajuato, authorities reported.
The events occurred around 9:00 p.m. (04:00 a.m. on Thursday in the Iberian Peninsula) in a business located on Independencia Street, in Tarimoro, a small municipality of 35,000 inhabitants, located in the south of the state of Guanajuato.
Subjects with firearms arrived at the billiards and shot at a group of at least 10 people, of whom nine died at the scene and one more died while being taken to the hospital.
Cardboards with the acronym of the Santa Rosa de Lima Cartel were found at the site, which in recent years has plagued the state and controls the transfer of drugs and fuel as well as extortion.
Agents from the National Guard, the State Public Security Forces, and the municipal Police arrived at the scene to monitor the area, although no arrests have been reported so far.
Third massacre in less than a week
This massacre occurs just after two others occurred last Saturday. The first was in the municipality of Silao, where four people were killed inside a house, while the second was recorded in the municipality of Romita, where six men were shot.
Between Friday the 16th and Sunday the 18th of September, 39 people were murdered in Guanajuato, according to official figures.
Last Tuesday, the Secretary of Public Security and Citizen Protection of the Government of Mexico, Rosa Icela Rodríguez Velázquez, reported that, despite the downward trend in intentional homicides in Guanajuato, it remains the state with the highest incidence in the country. , with 2,115 victims between January and August of this year.
The events of this day reflect the violent wave in Mexico, which registered 33,308 homicides in 2021 after the two most violent years in its history, under the mandate of Andrés Manuel López Obrador, with 34,690 murder victims in 2019 and 34,554 in 2020.
