Ukraine fears serious flooding after Russian attack on water infrastructure
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky warned Wednesday night that Russian attacks in the vicinity of the city of Kryvyi Rih, near Zaporizhia, could cause severe flooding.
"The terrorist country continues to attack the civilian population. This time, missile attacks on hydraulic structures and attempted flooding of Kryvyi Rih," the president said on his Telegram channel.
Zelensky accused Russia, unable to "break" the Ukrainians, it is trying to "spread panic, create an emergency and try to leave people without light, heat, water, and food."
For his part, the deputy head of the Office of the President of Ukraine, Kirilo Tymoshenko, indicated that the impact of the missiles has caused a water leak in which a flow of up to 100 cubic meters per second has been recorded, according to the UNIAN agency.
"This is a significant amount. The water level in the Ingulets River changes within an hour. We are clearly aware of the magnitude of the tasks we are facing in eliminating the consequences of missile attacks," Timoshenko said.
Ukrainian authorities accused the Russian Armed Forces of launching a missile attack on the city of Kryvyi Rih on Wednesday. Sources from the aforementioned agency point out that the Russian Army has made use of model 'X-22' cruise missiles launched from aircraft.
