Russia clears the specter of nuclear attack: "We do not threaten anyone"
The Russian Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, Sergei Riabkov, affirmed this Friday that Russia does not threaten anyone with nuclear weapons, at a conference dedicated to the 60th anniversary of the Missile Crisis, which is remembered next October and which had the United States and the Soviet Union on the brink of war.
"We do not threaten anyone with nuclear weapons. The criteria for their use are specified in the foundations of Russia's state policy in the field of nuclear containment," Riabkov said in a speech delivered at the Foreign Ministry's Diplomatic Academy.
At the same time, the deputy minister called on the US to avoid situations that could lead to a military confrontation with Russia.
"We warn of the risks of Western intervention in the special military operation in Ukraine and urge the US government to avoid situations that could lead to a direct military clash with Russia," he said.
The United States, he added, "is incapable, in principle, of reaching agreements and, together with London and other capitals of NATO countries, directly pushes Kyiv to transfer military actions to our territory."
According to Riabkov, Washington intends to "fight every last Ukrainian, and in order to deal Russia, as they say, a strategic defeat, it uses nuclear blackmail and lowers the nuclear threshold, which creates an additional threat to the security of the Federation. Russian".
He also stressed that "it is no secret to anyone that Russian-American relations are in a sorry state, almost zero, comparable to the worst moments of the Cold War."
In his opinion, the more resolutely Russia acts in Ukraine, "the sooner the US will be forced to recognize Russia's legitimate vital interests."
