At least five injured in a shooting with multiple armed people at a high school in California

Several people were injured this Wednesday in a shooting at a high school in Oakland, a town located in the San Francisco Bay Area (California, USA), according to local media.

The Oakland Police confirmed the event through social networks and designated a special place for families to meet with the students, although they did not give more information about the number of victims, which according to the CBS network is five injured, all of them transferred to a hospital.

According to this medium, the shooting involved several armed people outside a complex that includes three schools and is located in one of the most populated areas in the state of California.

"I heard the shots and saw a woman get out of the car and run into the school and I thought the worst," a witness told NBC Bay Area.

Hearing the gunshots, the three schools in the complex isolated students and staff from the center until they could safely begin an evacuation.

Television cameras showed numerous police vehicles and emergency equipment in the immediate vicinity of the student campus.

A school again

The event occurred when the US population is still shocked by the shooting on May 24 in the city of Uvalde (Texas), which resulted in the death of 19 children and two elementary school teachers.

It was the deadliest school shooting in the United States since the 2012 massacre at Connecticut's Sandy Hook Elementary School.

The tragedy reopened the debate on the use of weapons in the country, as it occurred ten days after another dozen people were shot to death in a supermarket in the state of New York, and was followed by several mass shootings during the celebrations for the July 4, being that of Illinois, with seven deaths, the most violent of the holiday.
