The situation of the Zaporizhia nuclear power plant, the largest in Europe, is "extremely dangerous" after the fire that started this Thursday and caused the disconnection of the last line that connected the plant with the Ukrainian energy system and while Russia is in its facilities the threat of a nuclear incident is "very high", according to the Ukrainian company Energoatom, insisted the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine, Dmytro Kuleba.

This was underlined by Kuleba in a joint press conference with his Italian colleague, Luigi Di Maio, in Kyiv, local media have reported.

"The situation in the Zaporizhia region is extremely dangerous. I receive reports of flames in the forest near the nuclear power plant," said the Ukrainian minister, who stressed that his country has been "a loyal partner" of the IAEA (Organism International Atomic Energy Agency) and has complied with "all nuclear safety rules and protocols, everything has been perfect."

According to Kuleba, "as long as Russia is at the Zaporizhia nuclear power plant, the threat of a nuclear incident will be very high," according to Ukrinform.

In his usual speech, the President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelensky, assured Thursday night that Russia, with its action at the Zaporizhia nuclear power plant, has put Ukraine and all Europeans "one step away from a radiological disaster".
