Three dead and twelve injured by strong storms in Corsica

Three people have died and twelve have been injured, one of them seriously, in two campsites on the Mediterranean island of Corsica due to the fall of trees and infrastructure caused by the strong storms that have occurred in much of France.

The deceased is a 13-year-old teenager, a 46-year-old man, and a 72-year-old woman, according to Le Monde. The minor succumbed to a falling tree in her bungalow on a Sagone campsite. The woman died on Limone beach in Coggia after the roof of a straw hut fell on her vehicle. And the man was also the victim of a tree falling on his bungalow in Calvi.

In addition, a 23-year-old Italian woman is in very serious condition, also a victim of a falling tree in the Calvi pine forest.

Since this Thursday morning, strong storms with winds of up to 200 kilometers per hour have hit this paradisiacal and tourist French island in the Mediterranean.

The Prefecture of South Corsica warned that the storms are causing "important damage and hindering circulation." Also, 45,000 homes have been left without electricity.
