- Eggs and preparations made with them are the almost exclusive cause of this infection.
These are the foods that are most likely to cause salmonellosis
Salmonella is a bacteria that causes intestinal infections and is transmitted through food, especially during the summer, since it thrives in temperatures above 20 degrees.
There are certain foods that must be paid more attention to when eating them during the summer because if they are not properly preserved, the risk of suffering from salmonellosis increases.
As indicated by the Health portal of the Community of Madrid, salmonellosis is caused almost exclusively by one food: eggs. This is because the bacteria that cause infections are usually found in the eggshell.
Foods that cause salmonellosis
However, to this list we must add other foods and preparations that are also made with eggs and that are more likely to cause infection:
- Eggs
- mayonnaise
- omelet
- no bake desserts
Thus, among the recommendations when making preparations with eggs or consuming this product directly, we must highlight keeping the eggs in the fridge, not washing them with water before cooking with them, and consuming the already cooked dishes as soon as possible, without storing them for a long time.
In addition to this, care must also be taken with the consumption of fruit, since a lack of hygiene can also cause these intestinal problems. It is advisable to wash your hands well before handling the pieces of fruit and to use clean utensils. It should also be refrigerated once it has been cut or if the skin has been removed.
