Spain wants to install 6G in 2030 to increase data transmission speed

Spain has started its race to develop 6G. The BOE published this Thursday the conditions to access the aid of 116 million euros for research projects that are related to the connection, in addition, the Government hopes that it will be available in 2030.

The BOE points out that "the implementation of 5G technology does not mean a mere technological change in mobile phone networks, as has happened in the past with other technological evolutions such as that from the 3G to 4G standard, but in this case, it will have a much bigger impact.

The 6G wants to increase the data transmission speed of wireless networks and reduce the presence of 5G. Its mission is to consolidate the progress made with its predecessor, thus giving way to extended reality (XR), mobile holograms, and real-time automation.

On the other hand, cloud computing and artificial intelligence will be enhanced thanks to data centers to develop "new applications and provision of services".

Aid to boost 6G

The aid is distributed in two programs:

6G: Financing of research infrastructures for the acquisition of equipment.
5G+ (nexus between both technologies): Intended for Spanish companies to finance R&D projects in 5G+.

Availability in 2030

Despite the fact that 5G has not yet been consolidated throughout Spain, sustainability problems question whether the global supply chain undertakes massive digitization of devices in the implementation of 6G.

The Government hopes that 2030 will be the year to start with the 6G deployments in the country. Meanwhile, South Korea wants to install such a network by 2028, in addition, Germany and France have invested in 6G research projects.
