Pedro Sánchez, together with Foreign Minister Olaf Scholz: "Spain and Germany are going to work together to protect families"

The President of the Government, Pedro Sánchez, and the German Chancellor, Olaf Scholz, have certified this Tuesday their alliance in favor of promoting energy interconnections in the European Union and, in particular, the one that should unite the Iberian Peninsula with France through of the Pyrenees.

"I appreciate the shared vision," said Sánchez in relation to the search for alternative energy connections to Russian gas. These statements were made during the press conference that both leaders offered from the Meseberg Palace, some 70 kilometers from Berlin, where the extraordinary two-day Council of Ministers is being held.

The head of the Spanish Executive has attended the first of two sessions (which has prevented him from chairing the usual Tuesday meeting of the Council of Ministers) in which he has addressed, together with the German chancellor, the national security strategy and supply problems derived from the war in Ukraine.

Sánchez began his appearance by valuing the bilateral meeting and the fact that he was allowed to attend a German Council of Ministers, which he described as "a symbol of the great harmony between the two countries" and a "show of trust".

"I appreciate the shared vision of alternative connections," he added while stressing the "importance of looking at Latin America and the Caribbean," where the EU also wants to focus its efforts on finding alternative energy partners for Putin.

Sánchez has insisted that Spain and Germany share the priority of "working together to protect families" from the consequences of the Russian war invasion of Ukraine. "We share the Europeanist vision and fair growth that shares the burdens of the war in Ukraine in a balanced way," Sánchez added.

The President of the Spanish Executive has recalled the "two milestones" that will take place this fall that show the good relationship between both countries. On the one hand, the Spanish-German summit organized by Spain will be held on October 5 and 6. In addition, the King and Queen of Spain, Don Felipe and Doña Letizia, will also make a state visit this fall, although the date has not been specified.
