Japanese police chief resigns over Shinzo Abe murder
The director of the National Police Agency of Japan, Itaru Nakamura, presented his resignation on Thursday as a result of the attack that cost the life of former Prime Minister Shinzo Abe on July 8 during a street rally.
Nakamura's resignation was announced this Thursday at a press conference during the presentation of the report on the performance of the security device deployed during the electoral act organized in the city of Nara, in which Abe was shot twice by an individual carrying a weapon home-made fire.
The head of the Japanese national police affirmed that his resignation is due to the "serious" failures of the aforementioned device, which led to "a serious result", and pointed out that the authorities must "review the way of protecting security" and "start from zero".

The report indicates that "there was an obvious flaw in the security plan" for the act of the late former president, and that the poor location of the agents and bodyguards, as well as the low number of police officers on the ground, "produced a vacuum in the back protection" from where Abe was.
The confessed author of Abe's murder, a 41-year-old ex-military man identified as Tetsuya Yamagami, shot the politician in the back while he was making a speech on an island, while traffic continued behind him.
"None of the bodyguards were aware of the approach of the suspect and did not immediately recognize that the sound of the shots was caused by a firearm," the text adds.
After the first shot, which did not hit Abe, "no action was taken to get Abe out of danger, such as lowering him from the lectern or throwing him to the ground", as evidenced by the images recorded by the witnesses who attended the speech, and it was already later when bodyguards saw the shooter and tried to block the shot.
