Commotion in Liverpool: a 9-year-old girl was killed by a gunman who entered her home

A 9-year-old girl has been murdered in her own home and two other people have been injured after an unknown man shot them and fled, the Daily Mail reported. The event occurred around 10:00 p.m. this Monday in Knotty Ash, Liverpool, according to the neighbors, who informed the police that they had heard shots coming from the house located on Kingsheath Avenue. This murder comes less than 48 hours after a woman was killed "by mistake" over the weekend.

The girl, who has not been identified, suffered a gunshot wound to the chest and was taken to the hospital in critical condition, where she ultimately died. The girl's relatives have been informed of the events.

A man also suffered gunshot wounds to his body and a woman was injured in the hand during the incident at the home. Both have been taken to hospital. The police investigation is ongoing and until this morning the scene remained cordoned off.

Second murder in less than 48 hours

This is the second gun murder to occur in less than 48 hours in the city of Liverpool. In the early hours of August 21 Ashley Dale, 28, was murdered in the garden of her home, located in the Old Swan area, despite the fact that she was not the intended target, according to the police.

So far, no one has been arrested on suspicion of the crime and police believe the criminals broke into Dale's home and "sprayed it with bullets."

Both the 9-year-old girl and Dale lived in the same community and both crimes happened less than 3 kilometers apart. However, so far the police rule out that the murders may be related.

According to the police, Ashley Dale was the victim of a case of "mistaken identity". Surprisingly, the same thing happened to his 16-year-old brother 7 years ago, when he too was killed "by mistake" by a gang who mistook his identity for a rival. The police have also not linked the death of the two brothers.

Historical armed violence

Liverpool has suffered from gun violence for decades. The girl's crime coincides with the 15th anniversary of the murder of 11-year-old Rhys Jones, who was shot while walking home from soccer practice.

Jenny Sims, assistant chief of police, has described the event where the girl died as "a truly shocking incident".

"Our thoughts and condolences go out to his family and friends at this very difficult time. No parent should have to suffer the loss of a child under these terrible circumstances," he continued.

The police assistant also explained that they have several lines of investigation. He said they will check security cameras and even ask for cell phone recordings from "everyone who lives, works or was visiting the Kingsheath Avenue area last night."

"This crime is abhorrent and our communities must step up and tell us who is responsible," Sims concluded.
