A 27-year-old Afghan man was murdered last weekend in Colmar, south of Strasbourg, after protesting the noise caused by a 'rodeo', an urban race, the local press reports on Tuesday, events that concern the authorities who have promised to strengthen police controls.

The events took place on Saturday afternoon in a neighborhood of Colmar, where a group of citizens of Afghan origin was having a barbecue that was interrupted by the loud noises of a motorcycle whose driver was participating in a rodeo, races, and balance demonstrations at two wheels that have been repeated in recent months in numerous French cities.

The young man confronted the driver who drove away before returning with a gun, shooting the man in the chest and fleeing.

Doubts about the author and protests

Police sources point out in the regional press that the author of the events could have been another person but, in any case, a member of the group that participated in said rodeo.

The victim, who had no criminal record, had to be evacuated to a hospital in critical condition but ultimately succumbed to his injuries.

The newspaper Dernières Nouvelles d'Alsace (DNA) echoes a demonstration that took place late on Monday in the neighborhood where the events took place. Demonstrators with Afghan flags and portraits of the victim protested until they reached the doors of the police station demanding justice.

"We have launched important means to find the murderer of Colmar. I have decided to send a riot cell to carry out police operations to restore the republican order and bring to justice the criminals who want to impose their law," he said on Twitter. Interior Minister Gerald Darmanin.

The 'rodeos' have become a danger for many neighborhoods where the roads are used by groups of young people with vehicles, especially motorcycles, for competitions or displays of acrobatic postures.

It is not the first incident

This Monday, a ten-year-old girl came out of a coma after being run over on August 5 by a motorcycle in Pontoise, northwest of Paris, while playing with another eleven-year-old boy, who was also injured.

The family's lawyer has indicated that the minor is better but remembers that she could suffer irreversible consequences.

The motorcycle driver fled with two accomplices before turning himself into police the next day.

Other young people participating in these events have been seriously injured or killed in recent months.

Darmanin promised at the beginning of August to reinforce police interventions with 10,000 extraordinary checks to stop these urban phenomena of young people breaking traffic rules, threatening the safety of other people, and causing other disturbances.
