Incidence of accidents in chemical plants
Accidents are frequent in the Chinese chemical sector, where, despite new regulatory initiatives, regulations remain lax.
In March, seven people died in a fire at a chemical plant in northern China, and in February, five people lost their lives, and eight others were injured after inhaling toxic gases after an accident at a chemical fiber factory in the northeastern city of Jilin.
In 2019, an explosion at a chemical plant in the eastern province of Jiangsu left 78 dead, after which an inspection of all chemical plants in the country was ordered.
